Murphy's
Pub was established in 1981 as Seattle's first Irish pub. This was
fortunate timing because the microbrew revolution was about to explode
and change the beer industry forever. Murphy's became a leader in
this movement by unveiling many of these new brews and innovations
that have since become what defines the northwest alehouse, including
the multi-tap draft box, 16 oz pint glass and hand pulled cask conditioned
ale.
The
early 1980's also saw a burgeoning Irish music scene that found
its home in Murphy's. Traditional musicians emerged and converged
to make Murphy's a unique confluence of world class Celtic music
and Guinness stout, creating a scene reminiscent of a pub in Galway
or Dublin, Ireland. Murphy's stage became the set of a nationally
syndicated radio program, "Sandy Bradley's Potluck" which
hosted some the country's finest folk musicians. It was a time to
be seen at Murphy's. Murphy's success helped create a much needed
boom in Irish pubs in Seattle. Eventually, musicians moved on or
disbursed and the "scene" matured into the next phase.
Murphy's
was ready for the next phase as well. In 1992, we moved a half-block
west into a new, upscale building. We kept everything that had made
Murphy's successful. Additionally, we expanded the menu offerings
by enlarging the kitchen and we also expanded the bar offerings
by bringing in single malt scotches and a full liquor complement.
Our music stage continued to host the best local or touring Irish
and folk acts. Seattle's first Open Mike continues to draw would
be stars far before "American Idol" and Murphy' steel
dart "pit" continued to witness one of the last bastions
of this fabled pub sport in Seattle.
Murphy's
has grown into a Seattle institution that serves and enhances the
Wallingford community. The St. Patrick's Day celebration is legendary
and is among the oldest in the city. Murphy's Pub has entered its
3rd decade preserving and building upon a commitment to our patrons
of serving Wallingford and Seattle the finest Irish pub experience
possible.
